Yabei (also written Ya Bei) is a dense, aromatic hardwood sourced from the Taihang Mountains of northern China, prized in Buddhist mala and rosary traditions for its natural grain, durability, and the warm patina it develops with age and handling. The 108-bead count is traditional in Buddhist practice — representing the 108 earthly desires to be overcome on the path to enlightenment, and used for counting mantras during meditation.
These bracelets are handcrafted from aged Taihang yabei wood, with each bead individually shaped and strung. Available in seven bead diameters (0.6cm through 2.0cm) and multiple bead counts — the full 108-bead rosary for traditional practice, or shorter counts (12–19 beads) for a wrist bracelet format. Some variants feature natural wood grain markings (referred to as "scar" or "knot" patterns in the supplier descriptions) which are natural characteristics of the aged wood, not defects. Accessory-only variants (ring + gourd charm, or gourd charm pair) are also available for customizing an existing bracelet.
